I&#8217;m that weird guy that will take the scrap lumber on your curb headed for the dump. So, what do I do when my neighbor throws out an old rugged fence post? I make an old rugged cross.<\/p>\n<p>I simply cut the rot off of the end and cut the remaining post into two parts, leaving one 2\/3 the total length for the vertical piece. Then, I cut a notch in the middle of the short piece and a notch about a 1\/3 of the way down on the longer piece creating a half-lap joint so that the cross would come together flush. Finally, I took a belt sander to it for a more uniform distressed look.<\/p>\n<p>I gave this to a great friend who has a collection of crosses, and she currently has it on her porch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"I love making things out of old lumber, especially fences.
